The new season is almost upon us, and as the Starks would say, winter is coming. There’s fresh snow in the Alps, giving a select few glacier resorts early Autumn powder. Shops are filling up with brand spanking new ski and snowboard gear ready for winter, and here in London (ski bunny home base) the annual snow sports launch parties are on the horizon.
Now, with the best will in the world, London is pretty far from being a ski resort. Obviously, there aren’t too many launch parties to choose from this side of the Channel. So since it’s still a bit too soon for us all to decamp to our resort of choice, you’ll just have to settle for Ellis Brigham’s SnowFest Launch Party.
I’m sure you’ll survive.
The SnowFest Launch Party will be held from the 23rd to the 29th of October, in the most spectacular of all Ellis Brigham stores; their Covent Garden flagship. Once there, you’ll be able to get expert advice in the form of talks from infamous ski instructor to the stars Warren Miller and off-piste expert Henry Schniewind.
If that doesn’t seem like your idea of a rager, maybe the copious amounts of gluhwein, beer and pretzels will be more up your street. Perhaps you only ever go to these events to meet pros? You’re in luck there too. there’ll be a smattering of Team GB skiers giving talks for anyone hoping to ski like Katie Summerhayes or James Machon.
Of course, you could just swing by, grab a pretzel and some gluhwein and enjoy the live music. That’s always a pretty chilled out recipe for an evening. After all, live acoustic sets from a pair of Toms (Speight and Forest in this case) is nothing to be sniffed at.
If you’re thinking, ‘I see through this blatant ploy to get me to buy more ski gear I don’t need, by getting me drunk in a ski shop’; to that we say, you could always wait until next season. We’d like to think the completely free advice will make it worth your while though.
What’s that you say? I forgot to mention it’s free? Well now you know. It’s free.
We’ll see you in the front row, trying to get the pros to hook us up with sweet deals on the latest kit we can’t afford. It’s a hard life, but someone’s gotta do it.
